A short introduction on how to use ELLUMINATE

[YLSIG's pbwiki - Not a regular resource, more a tool for occasional  use  ]

These general instructions hold good for all ELLUMINATE sessions, but there can be slight variations in procedures for individual presenters..

It's sensible to try out the site - which includes testing your microphone and sound,-
in advance of the start of the session, ,-, under no time pressure (a couple of days before is ideal since it gives you time to ask for help if something does not work)
. If you have not got a microphoine, that's not a disaster since you can communicate using written chat, keying in/typing what you have to say.

These are the details Michael Coghlan, a Webhead expert, and our first Elluminate presenter,  sent to help intending visitors to the presentations in Elluminate..

Subject: Elluminate Session - Jan 29th

To: djn@dennisnewson.de

Hi there Dennis - some info for intending participants .............

To prepare for the event (download and install software, test audio) I suggest people go to http://elluminate.com/support/index.jsp

The First Time Users part of this page automatically tests system requirements for running Elluminate. Step 2 - Join Configuration Room - prompts an automatic download and install of the software required to run Elluminate, and tests audio.

Testing Audio

Please urge people to do this WELL BEFORE THE LIVE SESSION. I'd rather avoid the situation where we lose half of the live session troubleshooting audio problems. They need to

1. Test their audio in the configuration room. That is, ensure they can hear, and that their microphone works.

2. If it doesn't work, get one that does.

3. Ideally it's best to test the mic on the computer they will be using for the session.

Troubleshooting

If people have trouble installing the software or getting audio working they can try the Self Help Support Portal at http://elluminate.com/support/index.jsp (While it's not the most intuitive of sites, most of the answers to tech questions are there.)

Live Event

We will use the Webheads Elluminate room within LearningTimes. To find it

1)     go to http://www.learningtimes.org/

2)     if you are not a member already sign up via the Become a Member button. (It takes just a few minutes, and it's free.)

3)     once you are inside the LearningTimes community, go to http://home.learningtimes.net/learningtimes?go=273662 to find the Webheads room.

This is a link that gets you close to the office most of our presenter use.- a couple of deciusons, some quick downloading, and you are in..
